DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team fell 5-1 to Aurora University on Friday night at ImOn Arena. Despite a strong defensive effort, the Spartans were unable to overcome an early deficit.

Aurora broke through with two goals in the first, taking a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The University of Dubuque put eight shots on goal in the opening frame but couldn't find the back of the net.

Aurora extended its lead with two more goals in the second period, but the Spartans responded at 16:26 when Peighton Walker capitalized on an opportunity and scored unassisted to put UD on the board. The period ended with Aurora leading 4-1.

In the third, the Spartans held Aurora to just one empty-net goal late in the game but were unable to close the gap offensively. The ID Spartans finished the night with 22 shots on goal, led by Samantha Eldridge and Aleah Giddings with four shots each.

Savannah Wuitschick was a key factor in goal for the Spartans, making 37 saves. On defense, Madigan Depuydt blocked four shots, while Zoe Cupples led the team in the faceoff circle with 11 wins.
