LAKE FOREST,Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's hovkey team put together a strong defensive effort in the final game of the series against Lake Forest College but fell short, 2-1 after a late third-period goal.
The first period remained scoreless thanks to a stellar performance from Spartans goaltender
Savannah Wuitschick, who recorded 16 saves to keep the Foresters off the board.
Lake Forest struck first, scoring late in the second period to take a 1-0 lead heading into the third. The Spartans answered midway through the third period, as
Aleah Giddings buried the equalizer off assists from
Lauren Jeffery and
Arwen Sims, making it a tied game.
With under two minutes remaining, the Foresters capitalized on a late opportunity, netting the game-winner to secure the 2-1 victory.
Savannah Wuitschick finished the night with an impressive 49 saves, while
Arwen Sims contributed defensively with an additional three blocks.
