Men's Basketball Drops Conference Opener to Duhawks

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team dropped their first game of the season on Wednesday night in the conference opener against the Loras College Duhawks, 84-69. 

In the early stages of the first half the Spartans and Duhawks were back and forth with five ties and four lead changes where the Spartans led 15-10 with 11:04 left in the first half. After Loras led by seven at the half, the Spartans trailed by six with 14:10 left in the game. The Duhawks would go on a critical 25-9 run to seal away the game.

Jacob Williams finished his night with 25 points (18 in the first half) on 9-16 shooting from the floor. Ethan Henderson scored a career-high 15 points off the bench on 50% shooting, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Logan Sluder added eight points with a pair of three-pointers.

The Spartans struggled on the boards, allowing 17 offensive rebounds and had a tough time at the free throw line, going 15-28 (53.6%).

"We really struggled shooting the basketball tonight, especially from the foul line. We also didn't do a good enough job on the glass tonight. Jake played really well and Ethan had a solid game off the bench, but overall we didn't execute well enough on both ends. We need to regroup and get ready for another big challenge and opportunity Saturday against UW-Platteville.

The Spartans fall to 5-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
