Men's Basketball Falls to Pioneers After Leading at Halftime

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team lost to the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Saturday night 83-71 at the Williams Fieldhouse on the Pioneers' campus.

It was low scoring battle in the first 20 minutes of Saturday's game as both teams combined to go 4-25 from beyond the arc. From two-point range the Spartans went 10-15 from the field that led to them leading 32-29 at the half. The Spartans led the game from their opening possession and did not trail until 2:57 left in the first half.

The Spartans trailed 49-48 with 10:22 remaining in the game, but the Spartans would only score two field goals over the next 6:40 of game time. That stretch would prove to be the difference in the game as the Pioneers would build their lead to double-digits, sealing the win for the home team.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"We defended really well in the first half, but we had to many mistakes in the second half to beat a good team on the road. I loved the way our guys competed, but we still need to clean a few things up on both ends. Jacob and Joey both had solid games offensively and Drew played well off the bench. Big week ahead with finals and we get a chance to compete in practice for a week before our next game."

Jacob Williams had a game-high 22 points and was perfect at the free throw line (7-7). Joey Coppola IV had a career-high 17 points while going 4-7 from the three-point line. Dylan Hibicke added 11 points, while Drew Apiagyei finished with a career-high 10 points. Ethan Henderson got the start tonight in place for the injured Grady Thompson and finished with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Spartans fall to 5-2 on the season.
