Women's Hockey Drops Road Contest to #6 St. Norbert, Turns Focus to Home Opener

DE PERE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team wrapped up its weekend series against No. 6 St. Norbert Saturday afternoon. The Spartans kept fighting the entire game, but fell to the Green Knights 6-3.

In the first period of action, the Spartans fell behind 1-0. Following the Green Knights' opener, Natalie Meeder took things into her own hands, scoring an unassisted goal while the Spartans were short-handed. UD fell behind 3-1 16 minutes into the period, having shots from Meeder and Alexandria Simmons blocked.

The Spartans began the second period strong with a flurry of shots with four minutes played. St. Norbert scored a fourth goal six minutes in, which sparked the Spartans' offense to life. Madilynn Schiile found her first goal of the season around the 10-minute mark, with the assist coming from Zoe Cupples. Then, fresh off a penalty kill, Natalie Meeder scored her second goal of the game with the assists from Ashleigh Eldridge and Malia Tetreault to make it 4-3.

Despite the rally from the Spartans, the Green Knights would find two goals to wrap up the match 6-3.

Natalie Meeder led the way for the Spartans with two goals and six shots. Madilynn Schiile had a goal, while Zoe Cupples, Ashleigh Eldridge and Malia Tetreault all had an assist.

On the defense, Emily Skanron had 37 saves in goal. Madigan Depuydt had a career-high nine blocks; Alexandria Simmons had four blocks.

The Spartans will take to their home arena for the first time this season as they face Trine University on Friday, November 14. It will be the first of two games, with Friday's matchup scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at ImOn Arena.
