DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team dominated the Edgewood University Eagles 86-62 in the Spartans' home opener of the 2025-26 season. The Spartans were led by
Jacob Williams and
Grady Thompson.
The University of Dubuque showcased the debut of the new electronic scorers table tonight that will be used for all athletic events inside the Stoltz Sports Center. The table was given generously by a gracious donor.
The Spartans from the opening tip played suffocating defense, holding the Eagles to just one field goal in the first 13:34 of the game. With holding the Eagles offensively, the Spartans were able to build an incredible 32-2 lead in the game. The Eagles slightly cut into the Spartans' lead to 21 points, but the Spartans ended the half up 45-18.
The Spartans recorded their biggest lead of the night with 15:56 left in the second half, up 58-26. With the Spartans in full control, they were able to play different combinations of players and ultimately ended up defeating the Eagles by 24 points.

"We got off to a great start and our guys were really locked in to start the game. Jacob had another impressive game and Josh also had his best game in varsity action. Our guards did a great job attacking and getting to the free throw line tonight as well. Grady had a solid game attacking tonight and it was great to see a bunch of guys get on the floor tonight."
The Spartans shot 45.45% from the floor in the first half and went 5-13 from the three-point line. The Spartans were able to get to the free throw line 39 times, making 31 (79.5%), with a majority of them coming in the second half.
Williams tied a career-high tonight with 27 points on 8-12 from the field. Williams also went 11-14 at the free throw line. Thompson finished with 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while being a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line. Seven other Spartans found the scoring column tonight.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Spartans will take their first true road trip of the season next Wednesday night (Nov. 19) when they travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa to face the Cornell College Rams at 7:00 p.m. from the Small Athletic and Wellness Center.
