Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Road Shutout Over Knights

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 shutout road victory over the Wartburg College Knights on Wednesday evening after they were led by Kaelyn Nash and Olivia Roth offensively, followed by a season-high six saves from Karissa Cruz to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

The Spartans didn't waste any time to open the game, getting off multiple shots on net. Virginia Speltz got off her second shot of the game in the eighth minute that would be saved by the Knights goalkeeper, but her shot would lead to an assist as Nash was able to find the back of the net to give the Spartans a quick 1-0 lead. The Spartans' defense held the Knights to just two shots on goal in the first half and were able to put up 11 total shots on goal on their offensive attacking zone.

The second half started very similar to the first as the Spartans were able to double their lead just six minutes into the half as Roth was able to score her second goal of the season off an assist from Speltz. The Knights were able to get a few more looks offensively in the final 45 minutes, but Cruz and the Spartans' defense were able to collect their second shutout in three conference games.

Alyssa Tranchita led the Spartans with four shots on goal, while Nash and Speltz each had three.

The Spartans improve to 5-1-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
