Women's Soccer Scores 1-1 Draw With Prairie Wolves

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team was back at Oyen Field on Saturday afternoon against the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves. The Prairie Wolves scored the first goal of the game, but the Spartans were able to answer in the later stages of the second half to force the 1-1 draw. 

The Spartans had every offensive advantage this afternoon, getting off 24 total shots with 10 shots on goal compared to NWU with just four total shots. The Spartans were also able to dominant the corner kick opportunities 18-3 and got numerous good looks at the goal, but were unable to capitalize.

 NWU scored the game's first goal in the early stages of the second half off a free kick at the top of the box to give them the early lead 1-0 in the 54th minute. With under 14 minutes to go, the Spartans were in their attacking zone as Alyssa Tranchita was able to dribble the ball along the back line and found an open Virginia Speltz who put the ball in the back left corner of the goal to even the score.

Tranchita (4) and Riley Trudeau (3) finished the game with multiple shots on goal. Karissa Cruz had a quite day in goal with a two-save performance in 90 minutes. 

The Spartans are now 5-1-6 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.

The Spartans will continue their home stand with a matchup on Tuesday, October 14 against the Simpson College Storm. Kickoff from Oyen Field is set for 5:00 p.m.
