DUBUQUE, Iowa - University of Dubuque women's soccer head coach,
Jason Berna was able to eclipse 250 career wins after the Spartans scored two second half goals to defeat the Simpson College Storm for the first time since 2019.
The first 45 minutes of tonight's game would go scoreless as the Spartans were able to get off 11 total shots, compared to just seven for the Storm.
Alyssa Tranchita would break the scoreless draw with a penalty kick shot into the bottom left corner of the net with just a little over three minutes played in the second half to give the Spartans the first goal of the game. After a nine shots on goal night, Tranchita is now tied for the second most shots on goal in a single game in UD women's soccer history, as well as tied for the most total shots in a single game with 14.
The Spartans would put the game on ice in the 83rd minute after Tranchita got off a shot that was saved, which led to
Kaelyn Nash scoring the Spartans' second goal of the night with Tranchita picking up her fifth assist of the season.
In goal,
Karissa Cruz saved five shots in route to her fourth shutout of the season on Tuesday night.
Not only did the women's soccer program pick up their 250th win all-time, they also recorded their 100th all-time conference win in the process.
The Spartans are now 6-1-6 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play.
