Women's Soccer Defeats Luther on Homecoming, Extends Undefeated A-R-C Record

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team took on the Luther College Norse from Oyen Field on Saturday during homecoming weekend. The Spartans used a goal in each half to defeat the Norse 2-1.

It did not take long on Saturday for the Spartans to get a goal on the scoreboard as Brooke Clark scored in the 20th minute to put the Spartans ahead early. Virginia Speltz had the assist on Clark's goal. The Spartans were able to get four shots on net in the opening 45 minutes. The Spartans defense was stout in the opening half, giving up the first shot if the game, but then held the Norse to no shots the rest of the half.

Luther was able to score the equalizer on their only shot on goal attempt all game in the 57th minute to even the score. The Spartans didn't let the even score last long as they were able to score the game-winning goal 11 minutes later off a penalty kick shot to put the Spartans up 2-1 from the Spartans' leading goal scorer Alyssa Tranchita. The Norse would be unable to get any more shots on goal throughout the remainder of the game as the Spartans defense stood their ground on the back line.

The Spartans finished the game with 18 total shots, nine on goal and dominated the corner kick opportunities with a 13-0 advantage.

The Spartans move to 4-1-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
