#20 Volleyball Calms Storm in 3-0 Sweep

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team clinched a spot in the A-R-C Tournament on Friday night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) sweep of Simpson College. The #20 Spartans can clinch a share of the A-R-C regular season title on Saturday at Central College.

The Spartans (22-3, 6-0 A-R-C) jumped out to an early 12-5 lead in the first set. The Storm (16-7, 3-3) made a late run to cut into the Spartans' lead but kills from Delainey Winkel and Ashley Glennon were enough to secure a 25-21 victory. The Storm led 8-4 in the second set before Winkel sparked a run that gave the Spartans a 11-9 lead. The set was tied at 22 apiece late until the Spartans took the final three points to take a 2-0 lead. The Storm kept the third set close but the Spartans pulled away late to finish the 3-0 sweep and keep the undefeated A-R-C season alive.

Winkel and Glennon led the Spartans with nine kills each on Friday. Megan Cooley notched seven kills for a .386 hitting percentage. Ashlyn McGinnis led the Spartans with four service aces, all of which were in key moments. Alexis Kammerer led the Spartans with 22 assists. Defensively, Payton Uptagraft, Halee Clare, and Caitlin Jensen all tallied two blocking assists and Winkel led the Spartans with 13 digs.

The Spartans will take on Central College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Dutch swept Loras College on Friday and look to continue the momentum against the Spartans. With a win, the Spartans will clinch a share of the regular season A-R-C title. With the win tonight, the Spartans have clinched a berth in the A-R-C Tournament.
