#20 Volleyball Clinches Share of Regular Season Title in Victory over Dutch

PELLA, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team clinched a share of the A-R-C regular season title with a comeback victory over Central College on Saturday. The Spartans were down 2-1 after three sets but took the final two frames to win 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 15-10).

The #20 Spartans started the match slowly as the Dutch led for much of the first set. The Dutch would take eight of the final ten points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Delainey Winkel and Ashley Glennon would help wake up a slumbering Spartans offense as a flurry of kills led the Spartans to a 25-17 victory in the second set. The third set would see many ties between both squads, but the Dutch would pull away late again to take the third set. Facing elimination, the Spartans would come out firing early in the fourth, building a 16-10 lead. Central would put together two short runs to take a 20-18 lead, looking to send the Spartans home after four sets. However, the Spartans would take the final seven points to send the match to a decisive fifth set. The Spartans would continue to leverage their momentum, building a 8-3 lead in the fifth. A Dutch comeback was proven futile, as a ace from Glennon completed the comeback in a five-set thriller.

Glennon would tally 16 kills and just five errors for a .229 hitting percentage. She also added two service aces, a block, and 17 digs in an all-around stellar performance for the senior. Winkel notched 15 kills of her own in the five-set affair. Megan Cooley hit .296 with nine kills in the comeback victory. Alexis Kammerer and Ashlyn McGinnis aided the offense with 27 and 16 assists, respectively. On defense, Taylor Bechen led the Spartans with 26 digs, while Payton Uptagraft and Caitlin Jensen added three solo blocks each to stifle Dutch hitters.
