LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team faced a tough road matchup at Lake Forest College on Friday night, falling 3-1 to the Foresters.
Lake Forest jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, with the Spartans managing just four shots on goal in the opening period.
Savannah Wuitschick was solid in net for the University of Dubuque, starting with 12 saves in the first.
Lake Forest extended their lead in the second period with another goal to make it 3-0. The Spartans came out strong with 11 shots on goal in the second period, but were unable to break through.
The Spartans got on the board at 1:43 of the third period when
Alexandria Simmons scored, assisted by
Chloe Byma and
Payton Kletke, but it wasn't enough to close the gap.
Alexandria Simmons played a key role, contributing four shots on goal and three blocked shots. Payton Kletke followed suit, recording three shots and two blocks, showing strong effort on both ends of the ice. Savannah Wuitschick ended the night with a total of 44 save in goal.
Zoe Cupples was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 12 draws, while Evie Daly added 10 faceoff wins to help the Spartans total 39 faceoff wins as a team.
