Spartans Wrap Up Series Against No. 4 Adrian College

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team faced off against nationally ranked No. 4 Adrian College in the second game of their weekend series on Saturday afternoon, falling 16-2 at ImOn Arena.

Adrian struck quickly, scoring their first goal just 2:14 into the game. The Spartans responded immediately as Libby Plath scored unassisted at 2:32 to tie the game 1-1. However, Adrian went on a scoring run, adding five more goals in the first period to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Libby Plath continued to shine for the Spartans in the second period, scoring her second goal of the game at 3:31 with assists from Chloe Byma and Madilynn Schiile. The Spartans aimed to chip away at Adrian's lead, but the second period ended with the Bulldogs ahead 8-2.

Despite the Spartans' best efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net in the third period, while Adrian tacked on eight more goals to close out the game.

Plath led the Spartans offensively with two goals on three shots. Ashleigh Eldridge dominated in the face-off circle with 10 wins, while Zoe Cupples added five face-off wins.

On the defensive side, the Spartans combined for 55 saves in goal. Kara Zelyck recorded 20 saves in the first period, and Molly Jex stepped in for the second and third periods, making 35 saves in relief. Alexandria Simmons also stood out defensively with four blocked shots.

The Spartans are back on the road next weekend starting on Friday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m. against Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.
