Spartans Fall to #4-ranked Adrian College, 7-0

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team took on nationally-ranked #4 Adrian College at home on Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 at ImOn Arena.

The Bulldogs struck early, scoring just 2:40 into the game to take a quick lead. The Spartans managed three shots on goal in the opening period, but were unable to capitalize against a strong Adrian defense.

Adrian broke the game open in the second period, netting five goals to extend their advantage. They added one more goal in the third period to round out the scoring.

Aleah Giddings led the Spartans offensively with three shots on goal, while Zoe Cupples contributed by winning six face-offs.

Defensively, the Spartans put forth a gritty effort with a total of 44 saves in goal. Savannah Wuitschick started the game, stopping 25 shots before Kara Zelyck entered with four minutes left in the second period. Kara Zelyck tallied 19 saves and allowed just one goal in relief. Alexandria Simmons, Ashleigh Eldridge, and Payton Kletke each recorded 3 blocked shots in today's match-up to disrupt Adrian's offensive rhythm. 

The Spartans will aim to bounce back as they prepare for a 3:00 p.m. puck drop tomorrow, Saturday, January 25, at ImOn Arena in Dubuque, Iowa.
