Spartans Secure Fourth Consecutive Win With 3-2 Win Over MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team secured their fourth consecutive win of the season on Friday night when they won at Milwaukee School of Engineering by a 3-2 final. 

The Spartans lit the scoreboard early in the first period when Alexandria Simmons found the back of the net at 3:55, assisted by Malia Tetreault. The teams battled through a scoreless second period, with Savannah Wuitschick stepping up in net making 20 saves in the frame to keep MSOE off the scoreboard.

In the third period, the University of Dubuque extended their lead to 2-0 when Aleah Giddings scored unassisted at 5:26. MSOE responded at 11:42 to cut the Spartans lead to one. The Spartans capitalized on a power play opportunity at 13:31, with Malia Tetreault scoring off an assist from Lauren Jeffery  to make it 3-1. MSOE struck back quickly at 14:04 to make it a one-goal game again, but the Spartans held strong down the stretch to seal the 3-2 victory.

Savannah Wuitschick was stellar in goal, making 36 saves, including 20 in the second period to anchor the Spartans defense. Offensively, Aleah Giddings led the team with seven shots on goal, while Alexandria Simmons and Alexandria Simmons each recorded a goal and an assist. 

The win improves the Spartan's record to 5-9-1 on the season. The Spartans will play the second game of the series Saturday, January 18 at 2:00p.m. at Kern Center in Milwaukee looking to make it five straight victories.
