DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque volleyball hosted top 25 ranked Cornell College Rams in their home opener on Wednesday in Stoltz Sports Center. The Spartans entertained a large crowd on hand and battled in a 1-3 loss.
UD started slow and lost game one by a 17-25 margin. The visiting Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead after winning the second match 25-15. UD rallied and captured the third set 25-18 before losing an early lead in set four. The two teams tied the match 11 different times with seven lead changes before the Rams edged out a 25-23 score in set four for the match win.
UD's offense was led by
Emma Powell who finished with 16 kills trailed closely by
Ashley Glennon who ended with 11 kills.
Alexis Kammerer led with 22 set assists as
Ashlyn McGinnis collected 20.
Taylor Bechen led the defense with 20 digs, Powell had 16, Glennon had 11 and Kammerer ended with 10.
Caitlin Jensen led in blocking with three assisted blocks in the loss.
The Spartans return to action this weekend Sept. 6-7 at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Triangular at The Time of Grace Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
