SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped their final two matches of the Saint Paul Tournament after falling to Carthage (9-25, 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 11-15) and host Hamline (21-25, 12-25, 22-25) moving their record to 2-2 on the season.
The Spartans opened the morning facing Carthage and after dropping the first set to the Firebirds. the Spartans were able to rally off the next two sets with wins before Carthage answered in the fourth set. In the winner take all fifth set, both teams were tied at 6-6, but six straight points by Carthage gave them a 12-6 advantage and ultimately won the final set to take the match. In the final match of the day, the Spartans were swept in straight sets by the Saturday's host school in Hamline University.
Two Spartans recorded double-digit kills in the opening match against Carthage as
Emma Powell recorded a team-high 15 kills while Dubuque Hempstead graduate,
Ashley Glennon had 12 kills and also added 12 digs.
Taylor Bechen had a career-high 27 digs against Carthage besting yesterday's performance against Minnesota-Morris by a single dig.
Against Carthage,
Caitlin Jensen recorded four blocks and
Payton Uptagraft added four blocks herself through both games today. The Spartans assist leaders nearly were even yet again today as both
Alexis Kammerer (34) and
Ashlyn McGinnis (33) were the main setters for the Spartans.
The Spartans move to 2-2 overall on the season.
