AUSTIN, Texas - On Wednesday, College Sports Communicators (CSC) released their 2023-2024 Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Academic All-America Teams. In Division III, University of Dubuque's
Otis Patterson and
Cade Collier became just the fourth and fifth men's track & field student-athletes in program history to be named Academic All-America by the CSC, previously known as CoSIDA.
Patterson finished up his collegiate career this past season being a part of both indoor and outdoor 4x400 meter relay teams that were conference champions and later became an All-American in each at the NCAA Championships. Patterson also was an all-conference performer in the outdoor high jump.
Patterson is now a back-to-back Academic All-American after receiving third team honors last season and is now the only University of Dubuque men's track & field student-athlete to be a two-time Academic All-American in school history.
Adding on to a historic career, Collier added more accolades this past season with earning all-conference honors in the weight throw where he also qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event. During the outdoor season, Collier set the new American Rivers Conference all-time & championships record in the hammer throw to be a conference champion in the event. The LeClaire, Iowa native was an All-American in the hammer throw and qualified for the shot put in the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Collier graduated with his undergraduate degree in Sport Marketing & Management and graduated with his master's degree in Sport Management this past May.
The University of Dubuque men's track & field team has two Academic All-Americans for the first time in school history. Patterson earning third team honors a season ago was the first since 2008 when Jonathan Erickson was named and shortly before Erickson was Basil Steele in 2005 as the first Academic All-American in program history.
