Spartans Cruise Past Northland 18-1

ASHLAND, Wis. - The University of Dubuque Spartans lacrosse team headed north as they played their second Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) game of the season at Northland home of the lumberjacks. The Spartans offense was firing on all cylinders as they scored a season high 18 goals securing the road victory 18-1.

After the first quarter of play, the Spartans jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Junior attacker, Quintten Rangel dominated the first 15 minutes of play as he scored three out of the five goals. The Spartans added to their lead in the second quarter netting four more goals to take a comfortable 9-0 lead into halftime. Sam Todd, Tyler Johnson, Tommy Shelby, and Kyle Hephner each scored in the second quarter. 

A minute into the third quarter, Giovanni Silva found the back of the net scoring his first goal of the game. The Spartans proceeded to score five more goals in the quarter as they lead 15-0 heading into the final quarter of play. With 8:08 left to play freshman, Landon Tumpa scored his first collegiate goal as the Spartans went on to win 18-1.

The Spartans got contributions from everyone as 10 different players scored a goal. Rangel led the way with a game high four goals followed by Todd with three, and two goals each from Shelby and Johnson. Silva was responsible for four of the eight assists. On the defensive side, Ryan Doyle finished with a team high five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Faceoff specialists, Andrew Robinson was 7-11 while John Lewis finished 6-11. In goal for the Spartans Nolan Nagy earned his seventh win of the season grabbing two saves. Beau Koening entered the game in the later minutes and recorded a save.

Up Next
The Spartans are now 7-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Spartans will have a little over a week's rest before they play Concordia University Wisconsin at home on Wednesday, April 17. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
