DUBUQUE, Iowa - On Saturday afternoon, the University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team picked up a big 10-9 home victory over the Adrian College Bulldogs on Oyen Field.
Giovanni Silva led the Spartans with a game-high five points (three goals, two assists) while
Aidan Culligan provided four points (three goals, one assist).
Sam Todd had two assists to go along with one goal as he continues to have a stellar season dishing the ball.
Tyler Johnson and
Aydan Rathsabandith each had two points for the Spartans.
Ryan Doyle finished the game with three caused turnovers and was able to snag double digit ground balls with 10.
John Lewis was the primary faceoff specialist today going 11-19 in the middle.
The Spartans were near perfect on their clears going 17-18 and won 14 of the 23 faceoffs in the game. Extra-man opportunites were a key to today's win as the Spartans were 3-4 whereas Adrian was 0-2 in the game.
How it happened
- Adrian scored the first goal of the game, but the Spartans answered at the 7:10 mark of the first quarter to be even 1-1 after 10 minutes of play.
- Both teams scored a pair of goals in the second quarter to go to the half tied at 3-3.
- The Spartans blanked Adrian in the third with four goals as Culligan scored twice and Silva and Todd scored.
- The Spartans led 10-6 with 4:58 remaining, but Adrian scored the next three goals with the final goal with 48 seconds remaining.
- The Spartans were able to hold off the late rally by Adrian to hold on for the 10-9 win.
The Spartans are back above .500 this season with an overall record of 4-3.
