AURORA, Ill. – The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team played their first road game of the season at Aurora University. In a back and forth game UD trailed by two at the half before falling just short 13-12.
In the first quarter UD trailed by an early deficit of 5-0.
Giovanni Silva struck through with a goal at 5:18 assisted by
Sam Todd to put UD on the scoreboard. 11 seconds later, UD netted another goal as freshman,
Eric Brostek scored his first collegiate goal. With two minutes remaining in the quarter, UD tacked on two more goals from
Quentin Evans and
Brendan Yamanaka, trailing 5-4 entering the second quarter.
UD grabbed their first lead of the game two minutes into the second quarter after goals from
Aydan Rathsabandith and
Tyler Johnson. Aurora responded with four unanswered goals retaking the lead 9-6. Todd found the back of the net before halftime as UD trailed 9-7 at the break.
Aurora ripped off three straight goals before
Aiden Ennett scored the only goal for UD in the third to climb back within four (12-8). In the final two minutes of the game UD netted three goals closing in on Aurora but the clock expired as UD lost 13-12.
UD got contributions from players across the board as 10 different players scored a goal. Todd led the way with three goals and two assists while Silva netted one goal and a team high three assists. Faceoff specialist,
John Lewis recorded 10 faceoffs wins and
Ryan Doyle finished with three caused turnovers. UD goalie,
Nolan Nagy snagged 12 saves in the full sixty minutes of action.
