Women's Wrestling Claim Five Placewinners at BVU Women's Open

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's wrestling team claimed five place winners on Saturday at the 2024 Buena Vista University Women's Open. Highlighting the finishes for the Spartans was Shea Reisel who won the 117 lbs. weight class and Mattie Papenthien who claimed the title in the 138 lbs. weight class.

Shea Reisel won by a technical fall in her first match 10-0. She won by a fall in the semifinals in 1:26 and capped off her day with a fall in :47 in the championshup match over Wartburg's Danielle Silva.

Mattie Papenthien won in the first round by a technical fall 10-0 over Wartburg's Rachel Fode. She made quick work of Dakota Wesleyan's Mady Sargent in :28. In the semifinals she added another fall this time in :52. In the championship match she captured a fall over Iowa Lake C.C. Leila Kollasch in 1:45.

Tatum Levendahl placed third at 145 lbs., Alex Hofrichter placed fifth at 160 lbs., and Brianna Seixas was third at 180 lbs. UD will enjoy a Christmas break before returning to the mat at the 2024 Soldier Salute at Xtream Arena in Coralville hosted by the University of Iowa.
