Women's Hockey Lose Weekend Series to CUW Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team was looking to avenge Friday's nights loss on the road. A slow start on Saturday put the Spartans down early 3-0, before the Spartans added a goal quickly in the second period. The host Concordia University Falcons added a pair of goals in the final period to win 5-1.

The Spartans lone goal happened at 15:57 of the second period when Alexandria Simmons scored off an assist from Payton Kletke on a power play. UD was 1-2 in power play shots. The Spartans grabbed 16 shots (six in the first period, seven in the second, and three shots in the final 20 minutes). Chloe Byma led with four shots and was trailed closely by Madilynn Schiile who had three shots in the final two periods.

UD won 14 faceoffs with Zoe Cupples winning five, Ashleigh Eldridge with four, and Schiile with three. Molly Jex started and played all 60:00 minutes in goal and stopped 19 shots in the opening 20 minutes of action. She saved 18 attempts in the second and finished the night with 14 saves in the final period. A physical game with 13 penalties called among the two teams.

The Spartans (1-9-1 overall) are approaching the midpoint of their 2024-25 schedule. UD will be off for the rest of 2024 before returning in 2025 with three home games beginning on January 7 vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:00 p.m. UD will host Northland College on Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Jan. 11 at 2:00 p.m.
