DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Inaugural Mississippi Match-Up Women's Hockey Tournament hosted by the University of Dubuque at ImOn Arena was won by St. Mary's University (Minn.) 5-3. The University of Dubuque Spartans scored first in the championship game before the Cardinals broke open for four consecutive goals to carry a 4-1 lead into the third period. The Spartans rallied to score twice in the third period, but ended the night losing by a 5-3 margin.

Malia Tetreault scored just :15 seconds into the championship final to put the Spartans in the lead. SMU tied the match late in the opening period on a power play goal to end the first period tied 1-1. The Cardinals started the second period with a goal :20 seconds in, to take the lead 2-1. SMU added a goal on a power play at 11:57 and another goal at 14:49 to extend their lead to 4-1. UD responded by scoring two early goals in the final period at 3:18 by Alexandria Simmons and assisted by Zoe Cupples and at 5:32 by Peighton Walker (unassisted) to slice the SMU lead to 4-3. SMU added the final goal of the game at 13:23. UD finished with 21 shots in the loss and were led by the duo of Aleah Giddings and Pacey Lannet who each had three shots. The Spartans won 22 faceoffs and Zoe Cupples grabbed 11 faceoff wins. Savannah Wuitschick played 40 minutes in goal and made a dozen saves in the first period, added 15 more saves in the second. Molly Jex played 18:02 of the third period and made 14 stops in goal as UD pulled the goalie with 1:58 to play.

In the consolation championship, the Lake Forest College Foresters won 3-1 over the Milwaukee School of Engineering Red Raiders. The Foresters would score a goal in each period in the victory and MSOE's goal was on a power play. The 2024 Mississippi Mtch-Up All-Tournament Team will be announced on Monday, Dec. 2.
