ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team faced off against Trine University on Friday night, falling to the Thunder 2-0 in a tightly contested match-up at the Thunder Ice Arena.
Trine wasted no time taking the lead, scoring just 1:33 into the first period. Despite the early deficit, the Spartans battled back with six shots on goal in the opening period, including two from C

Savannah Wuitschick kept the Spartans in striking distance with six saves in the period.
The Thunder extended their lead in the second period with a power-play goal at the 2:43 mark, making it 2-0. The Spartans generated offensive pressure, recording 10 shots on goal in the period, but couldn't crack the Thunder's defense.
In the third, the Spartan defense stepped up, holding Trine scoreless throughout the final period.
Savannah Wuitschick delivered a stellar performance in net, adding 17 more saves in the final period, finishing the game with 35 saves. The Spartans fired off seven more shots on goal in the final period but were unable to find the back of the net, as the Thunder held on to win 2-0.
UD won 18 face-offs on the night, with
Pacey Lannet leading the way, securing seven of the Spartans faco-off wins.
