Football Ends Season with 56-21 Road Win at BVU

Box Score STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque football team outscored the host Buena Vista University Beavers 42-21 in the opening half of action on Saturday at J. Leslie Rollins Field. UD finished the day dominating in a 56-21 victory compiling nearly 500 yards of offense and ending their season 5-5 overall for first year coach Ryan Maiuri. The Spartans faced four teams ranked in the top-25 and five teams who were ranked or receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Top-25 this season.

Joey Rhomberg started the afternoon and went into the locker room at halftime completing 15-19 passes for 228 yards and six touchdowns. Za'Cameron Brice and Jamari Jenkins were his early targets who combined for 11 catches and 170 yards and five touchdowns. The Spartans ran 30 plays and gained 289 yards in just 10:11 of possession time in the opening half of play. The Spartans ended the day after they rushed for 113 yards and passed for 383 yards through the air. UD had possession for just 26:43 and scored eight touchdowns in the final American Rivers Conference contest of 2024.

Rhomberg compiled 303 yards and seven touchdowns and was 21-26 in passing for a quarterback rating of 267.5. He was sacked just once and his longest throw of the day was from 61 yards. Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-4 for 55 yards and Nathan Beneke was 1-1 with a 25 yard touchdown. Brice finished the afternoon with nine catches for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Jenkins caught six passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns.

Tyler Olejniczak rushed six times for 40 yards with his longest run of 14 yards. Freshman Noah Roling ran eight times for 29 yards with his longest scamper of nine yards and DJ Jackson rushed six times for 24 yards.

Mike Westbrooks led the defensive front with seven tackles, Stone Gorman grabbed six tackles, and Jacob Garlick had five tackles. Joseph Xiya was perfect 8-8 in extra points, and kicked off 10 times for 522 yards with a pair of touchbacks.
