Women's Soccer Earns Massive Win Over UW-Platteville

Kober delivers game-winning goal in the 67th minute

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team picked up a massive home win over the UW-Platteville Pioneers on Wednesday night, handing the Pioneers (9-2-1) just their second loss on the season. Emma Kober scored the lone goal on the night for the Spartans (5-2-3) to give them the 1-0 edge.

The Pioneers got off 13 more shots in the opening 45 minutes of action and even had a near goal that hit the cross bar twice, but the Spartans got possession of the ball and cleared it out of the box, preventing the Pioneers from scoring. In the second half the Spartans controlled the ball and made great decisions on the offensive end that led to five corner kicks and got off three more shots than the Pioneers in the final half.

In a wild sequence in the Spartans offensive box, Taryn Richey created a shot for herself that hit off the cross bar and bounced right in front of the goal. Kober would then beat out the Pioneer defenders to the ball and proceeded to send it into the back of the net for her 14th career game-winner.

Karissa Cruz had a big night in goal tying her season-high and career-high in saves with 11. Cruz also has her fourth shutout of the season.

The Spartans picked up their first win over the Pioneers since 2019 when they had a five game winning streak going at that point in time. The Spartans also added their first regionally ranked win of the season.
