Women's Soccer Blanks Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Dubuque women's soccer team made the long trip to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday night, coming away with a 2-0 victory for their third conference win of the season.
 
The Spartans struck early in the match after a goal in the 9th minute by Samantha Scodeller, giving the Spartans the early edge with the assist credited to Amanda Pisciotta. Scodeller picked up her fourth goal of the season on the play to give the Spartans the early 1-0 lead. The Spartans had eight total first half shots, five being on goal and had the edge on corner kicks.
 
The Spartans offense continued to stay strong in the second half with eight more shots in the half with five more being on goal. The Spartans extended their lead in the 68th minute when Autumn Huntington scored her first goal of the season off the assist from Alyssa Tranchita giving the Spartans the 2-0 cushion.
 
The Spartans offense had 16 total shots with 10 on target overall, while the defense held the Prairie Wolves to six total shots. Karissa Cruz made three saves on the night in 90 minutes, earning her third shutout of the season.

The Spartans (8-3-3, 3-2) head into the home stretch of their schedule with three games remaining in the regular season. The Spartans currently sit in fourth place in the A-R-C standings with nine points. The Spartans will be back in action on the road Wednesday, October 23 as they travel to Indianola, Iowa to take on the Simpson College Storm, with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
