DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Women's Soccer team was back at home Saturday afternoon in American Rivers Conference play as they hosted cross town rival the #16-ranked Loras College Duhawks. It turned into a crisp and windy afternoon as both teams battled through windy conditions on Oyen Field. The Spartans carried a three-game win streak into the match-up, but fell short to the unbeaten Duhawks (12-0 overall and 3-0 in A-R-C) by a 2-0 margin.
 
Early on, the Spartans forced the Duhawks to play defense as Loras faced just seven on target shots all season in 2024. The Spartans were able to draw a free kick outside of the box and shoot back-to-back opportunities after Riley Trudeau had her first attempt blocked and then recovered the rebound. The Spartans kicked two first half shots and forced the keeper to make one save. The Spartans ended the opening 45 minutes of action in a 0-0 draw with the highly ranked Duhawks.

In the second half the Duhawks offense kicked into gear and finished with 15 second half shots and forced UD's keeper Karissa Cruz with five second half saves and eight on the afternoon. The Duhawks scored the game winning goal at 51:50 and added another as time was running out at 85:54. Loras led in fouls with 14 and also had the only two yellow cards in the game. The Spartans saw 14 players enter the game and trailed in corner kicks.

The Spartans (7-3-3 overall, 2-2-0 in A-R-C) will be back in action on Saturday October 19 as they make the trek to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Prairiewolves of Nebraska Wesleyan University (5-7-2 overall, 0-2-2 in A-R-C). Kickoff from Lincoln will be at 8:30 p.m.
