DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team were just :32 seconds away from forcing a 0-0 score in Monday's (postponed from Friday) game vs the Concordia University (Wis.) Falcons in a heartbreaking 0-1 loss at ImOn Arena.
The Spartans held the visiting Falcons at bay through nearly two periods. As the final minute ticked away in the second period, CUW found the back of the net with just 32 seconds left. UD fought throughout the match and showcased good looks for scores in every period. UD's defense improved throughout the weekend series and held the Falcons to just one goal in 36 shots.
Natalie Preston took the loss in goal, but was impressive stopping 12 shots in the first, 13 in the second, and 10 in the third period. The Spartans shot 19 times and were led by
Olivia Hodges with five shots and
Libby Plath with four.
UD won 22 face offs and lost 32.
Olivia Hodges was 11-13 and
Chloe Byma finished 10-18. The Spartans will travel to Appleton, Wis. on Jan. 19-20 for a two-game weekend series vs. Lawrence University with game time on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. UD's next home series will be against top-ranked Adrian College on Jan. 26-27 at ImOn Arena.
