#13 UW-La Crosse too much for Spartans on Sunday

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team had an extremely tough opponent on Sunday as they squared off against the #13 nationally ranked Eagles from UW-La Crosse. The Eagles would score in the opening minutes and never look back as they defeated the Spartans by a final score of 7-0.

Yet another day for the Spartans dealing with the elements of heat and humidity in their second game of the season as another large crowd gathered at Oyen Field to watch the Spartans go head-to-head with a top team in Division III.

The Eagles quickly scored in the first 2:20 of the game off a shot that hit Karissa Cruz's glove which then proceeded to hit the cross bar and backspin its way across the line to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Over a period of 15 minutes in the middle of the first half, the eagles would tack on another three goals increasing their lead to 4-0.

The Eagles would follow up the first half with three more goals in the second to finish off the game scoring seven goals. With the game stretched out and the heat playing a factor, the Spartans used their substitutions wisely and got fresh players to finish out the game. A total of 26 Spartans got in the game on Sunday and played at least five minutes. Elizabeth Livengood, Lily Rimrodt, and Fantu Andrews all saw the field for the first time as Spartans.

The Spartans only recorded two shots with one on goal from Riley Trudeau. In goal, Cruz played all 90 minutes and recorded a season-high 10 saves.
