Women's Soccer Opens Up Conference Play With 2-1 Victory Over Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team extended their winning streak to six games on Saturday as they took down the Knights of Wartburg College 2-1 in the conference opener for the Spartans.

In what was the first time since 2019 and only sixth time ever, the Spartans defeated Wartburg after a stellar two goal start in the opening 15 minutes of play. Alyssa Tranchita scored her fifth goal of the season exactly seven minutes into the game off an assist from Samantha Scodeller. Emma Kober would then follow Tranchita with a goal eight minutes later to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead early. The Spartans wouldn't score the rest of the way, but their defense was able to hold string as they only allowed one goal in the 60th minute of the game to win by a final score of 2-1.

The Spartans were out shot by the Knights by two shots, but the Spartans were more accurate with two more shot on goal attempts. Kober accounted for six of the 11 shot on goal attempts for the Spartans. The Spartans added one more corner kick opportunity than the Knights as well.

Karissa Cruz allowed the one goal in 90 minutes of action and recorded eight saves.

The Spartans move to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in A-R-C play.
