Women's Soccer extends win streak to three behind a six goal night

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team extended their win streak to three games on Wednesday night after defeating Monmouth 6-2 behind another two goal night from Emma Kober

The Spartans would start the game with seven shots in the first 15 minutes of the first half, but the eighth shot from Emerson Wilson would give the Spartans a 1-0 lead 17:41 into the game. That was Wilson's first goal on the season. Towards the later part of the first half, Monmouth would even the game at 1-1, but at the 42:05 mark the Spartans had a corner kick which went off a Monmouth defender and into the goal for a Monmouth own goal that gave the lead back to the Spartans 2-1 at the half.

In the opening minutes of the second half it did not take long for the Spartans to add on to their lead as Kober would kick two different penalty kicks within nearly a minute of each other giving them a 4-1 advantage. Kober now has scored two goals in each of the three games during the win streak. She also surpasses her goal total from last year only five games into the season with six goals to date (had five goals last season in 18 games).

Samantha Scodeller got her second goal of the year at the 60:00 minute mark off an assist from Alyssa Tranchita and then Bailey Brennan would score a goal herself shortly after to give the Spartans a commanding 6-1 lead. Monmouth would get a late goal in the game to end with a final score of 6-2 Spartans.

Kaelyn Nash led the Spartans with four shots on goal in six shot attempts. Karissa Cruz notched her third win in goal for the Spartans in 79:05 recording three saves. Mikayla Brown finished the game and collected her first save as a Spartan.

The Spartans had the most shot opportunities of any game this season with 33 and nearly half being on goal shots. The Spartans added four corner kicks and held Monmouth to zero.
