Men's Lacrosse Coasts Past Eagles in Final Home Regular Season Game

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team hosted the University of Northwestern Eagles on Saturday in what was an eventful weather day filled with sunny skies then quickly turning to a blizzard with sleet raining down on Oyen Field in the final regular season game of the season for the Spartans. The Spartans would prevail past the Eagles and the weather winning by a final score of 13-4. 

Men's lacrosse also held their senior day today honoring seven seniors who have helped turn the program around over the last four years and senior leader Ben Farraday kicked off the game with two goals to give the Spartans the lead at 2-0 not even four minutes into the game. The Eagles got on the board halfway through the first to cut the Spartans lead to 2-1. Farraday would add three more goals in the first half and Giovanni Silva added his lone goal on the day to help the Spartans lead 7-1 at intermission. The Spartans were able to tack on three goals in both the third and fourth quarters to win convincingly 13-4 for their third conference win of the season and in sole possession of second place in the MLC standings. 

Ryan Doyle had a stellar day on both ends of the field as a defenseman recording 2 goals, three assists (5 points), nine ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers. Aidan Culligan finished with three goals and three assists for six points. Tyler Johnson added a goal and two assists on the afternoon. George Smirl finished his final regular season home game with the win recording seven saves and allowing four goals. 

The Spartans forced off 47 total shots in the game with 29 coming on goal. The Spartans forced 36 turnovers and shut down the Eagles in clear attempts as they went 11-22. The Spartans were very successful on clears today going 24-25. 

The Spartans now move to .500 at 7-7 and 3-1 in MLC play.
