Spartans Take Series From Luther With Win in Game Three

Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans and the Luther Norse took the field this afternoon in the final game of the series. Both teams scored within the first two innings, but the Spartans pitching kept the Norse scoreless for the remainder of the game en route to an 11-3 victory.

The Norse platted two runs in the first off two hits and an error to take the early lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Spartans cut the deficit in half scoring a run of their own. In the second, the Norse scored another run due to a pair of errors by the Spartans. After back-to-back singles from Parker Allen and Colin Husko, Cole DeStefanis walked loading the bases in the third. With one out Kyle Radi stepped up to the plate and ripped a two-run single in right field tying the game at 3-3. The Spartans took their first lead of the game 4-3 as Brandon Watkins drove in a run off of a fielder's choice.

The Spartans were able to tack on another run in the fourth as Allen tripled down the right field line and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans continued to pad their lead by platting three more runs. Daniel Maller drove in one of those runs as he tripled into right center. In the last at bats for the Spartans, they added three more insurance runs taking an 11-3 lead. DeStefanis recorded his second RBI of the game by hitting a double and Watkins also hit a two-run double to close out the game.
