Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque Spartans and the Luther Norse took the field this afternoon in the final game of the series. Both teams scored within the first two innings, but the Spartans pitching kept the Norse scoreless for the remainder of the game en route to an 11-3 victory.
The Norse platted two runs in the first off two hits and an error to take the early lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Spartans cut the deficit in half scoring a run of their own. In the second, the Norse scored another run due to a pair of errors by the Spartans. After back-to-back singles from
Parker Allen and
Colin Husko,
Cole DeStefanis walked loading the bases in the third. With one out
Kyle Radi stepped up to the plate and ripped a two-run single in right field tying the game at 3-3. The Spartans took their first lead of the game 4-3 as
Brandon Watkins drove in a run off of a fielder's choice.
The Spartans were able to tack on another run in the fourth as Allen tripled down the right field line and eventually scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans continued to pad their lead by platting three more runs.
Daniel Maller drove in one of those runs as he tripled into right center. In the last at bats for the Spartans, they added three more insurance runs taking an 11-3 lead. DeStefanis recorded his second RBI of the game by hitting a double and Watkins also hit a two-run double to close out the game.
Aiden Sullivan got the start for the Spartans this afternoon. After working through a little trouble to begin, Sullivan settled in and secured his fourth win of the year. Sullivan tossed seven innings allowing only two earned runs on seven hits. He also struck out six batters.
Anthony Scanlon came in relief and pitched the last two frames holding the Norse to one hit and struck out three.
The Spartans totaled 13 hits on the day in which five Spartans had multiple hits.
Parker Allen led the way with three hits and two runs followed by Husko, DeStefanis, Radi, and Maller each with two hits.
The Spartans are now 19-8 and 9-7 in conference play.

Tuesday night, April 18 the Spartans will take on rival Loras College Duhawks at Petrakis Park in the third and final game of the series. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
