DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team competed against Wartburg College on Sunday afternoon losing 10-1 in the season finale. Miguel Esquivez and Will Sullivan both collected multiple hits during the contest.
Tanner Simmons started on the mound and escaped jams in the first and second innings before Wartburg broke through with two in the third. The Knights added two in the fourth before Sullivan drove in the Spartans' lone run. Wartburg tacked on runs in every inning from the sixth on to close the Spartans' season with a 10-1 loss.
Sulivan went 2-5 with an RBI and a double on Sunday. Esquivez went 2-4 and was hit by a pitch. Justin Potts, Tanner Simmons, Luke Levesque, Logan Cadenhead, Donald Kennedy, and Jack Richards also collected hits on Sunday.
Simmons was charged with the loss after throwing three innings, allowing three runs on three hits while walking five and striking out two. Matthew Risser, Jaden Marcus, Josh Rogde, and Colton Karczewski all threw in relief.
The loss ends the Spartans' season, as the program will look ahead to postseason honors in the coming weeks.
