Lacrosse Loses Game One of Road Trip in Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - During spring break, the University of Dubuque Spartans lacrosse team traveled down south to the state of Tennessee for some non-conference action. Up first on the schedule for the visiting Spartans was the host, Rhodes College Lynx. The Spartans trailed 4-2 at the half before Rhodes pulled away as the Spartans were defeated 11-4.

Three minutes into the game, senior, Ben Farraday found the back of the net as he scored by himself to even the game at one a piece. Halfway through the first quarter, Sam Todd tacked on another goal knotting the score at 2-2. The Lynx outscored the Spartans 2-0 in the second quarter as the Spartans entered halftime down 4-2. In the second, the Spartans took seven shots while the Lynx got off 15 shots. 

The Lynx scored five goals in the third before the Spartans got back on the board from a goal by Aydan Rathsabandith assisted by Kyle Hephner. Late in the third, the Lynx found the net again as the Spartans found themselves down seven (10-3) to end the third. The Spartans continued to battle in the fourth quarter as Farraday scored his second goal of the night assisted by Sam Todd. In the final 10 minutes of the game, neither team was able to add another goal resulting in a 11-4 loss for the Spartans. 

On the night, the Spartans found the back of the net four times on 23 shots. Defensively, the Spartans were able to force 19 turnovers and grab 27 ground balls. Nikolas Wortman led the Spartans with six ground balls and Cale Baumgartner had five. 

Up Next
The Spartans will return to Rhodes College on Saturday, March 4th where they are primed for a rematch of the NCAA Tournament game last year against the Britons of Albion College. The game is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
