ANGOLA, Ind. - After a historic night on Friday night for the University of Dubuque women's hockey team added another win on Saturday with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Trine University Thunder. With the win the Spartans won their first ever series in school history.
Chloe Byma secured the first goal of the night for the Spartans off an assist from
Cassidy Becia to give the Spartans the early lead just over two minutes into the first period. The second goal of the game would come from Jeffery in the last minute of the game after the Thunder pulled their goalie and the Spartans capitalized six seconds later to go up 2-0 and seal their second win of the season.
Schiile (7 shots) and
Cassidy Becia (6 shots) led the Spartans with 13 of the 25 shots taken in the game. The Spartans went 31-73 on face offs and was able to block 20 Thunder shots.
After picking up her first collegiate victory in goal the night before,
Savannah Wuitschick will have her name edged in school history, posting the first shutout for the Spartans after saving 43 shots by the Thunder.
The Spartans move to 2-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in NCHA play.
