(RV) Spartans Defense Stifles Norse in 63-43 Victory for Sixth Straight Win

DECORAH, Iowa - Another dominate defensive performance on Wednesday night by the (RV) University of Dubuque men's basketball team as they held the Luther College Norse to 42 points in their 20 point victory (63-43) and their sixth straight victory to start the season. Tonight's win marks the seventh straight win versus Luther.

Holding the Norse to 43 points tonight tied the lowest point total an opponent has scored against the Spartans since January of the 2021-2022 season. The defense was able to hold the Norse to 27.1% shooting from the field and under 20% from three point range. The Spartans were only allowing 60 ppg this season and were able to really make it hard for the Norse to get anything going on their offensive end.

Dylan Anderson led the Spartans with 14 points that included four threes. With his season high in points, Anderson ties his career high in points in a game after doing so two other times in his career prior to tonight. Brock Simon and Sam Kilburg each ended their nights with 11 and 10 points respectively. McCants struggled on the offensive end, but he snagged 11 rebounds in the win. Dylan Hibicke had a huge six minutes off the bench going 2-2 from beyond the arc that was at a crucial point in the game helping the Spartans build their lead.

The Spartans were able to establish dominance in the paint outscoring the Norse 26-14 and got 11 points off Norse turnovers compared to only two points off turnovers for Luther.

Head Coach Robbie Sieverding
"Our defense was pretty solid all night but we need to do a better job on the glass. I thought offensively at times we were struggling to find some rhythm but a few shots started falling in the second half. Dylan Anderson stepped up and Dylan Hibicke also gave us a spark off the bench. Sam also did a great job running our team and making the right plays throughout the night."

The Spartans move to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
