DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team posted a 2-2 draw with the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairie Wolves on Saturday as five seniors were recognized for their achievements in their respective careers.
Quickly into the game, NWU would record a foul inside the box that set up
Carson Kowalski for the Spartans goal to lead 1-0 in the 8th minute. In the 34th minute, NWU would score in similar fashion as they got a penalty kick opportunity and were successful to bring the score back to 1-1. Just before the half, the Spartans were able to recapture the momentum as
Gavin Wooldridge had an unbelievable pass to
Jos Van Hille and Van Hille was able to strike in the top right corner of the net to regain a 2-1 lead heading into the half.
In the 73rd minute just as it felt the Spartans were going to hold on for the win, NWU was able to get on a fast break and got a shot passed the Spartans goalie to draw back even at two. The score would remain even forcing the draw.
Five Spartans were able to get off multiple shots throughout the game as Wooldridge led the team with four shots and Wisdom added three. The Spartans got 10 more shot opportunities than NWU and only one shot on goal look. Corner kicks were limited on Saturday as the Spartans managed two opportunities and held NWU to one.
Christoffer Rastock picked up his first win in goal through three starts on the season, saving two shot on goal attempts in 90 minutes of play.
The Spartans move to 4-8-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
