DUBUQUE, Iowa - Needing a big-time win on Wednesday night, the University of Dubuque men's soccer team delivered by taking down the conference leader entering tonight with a 3-2 victory over the Simpson College Storm.
A win tonight for the Spartans helped them tremendously as they battle for seeding in the American Rivers Conference standings with only two games remaining now in the regular season after their win over Simpson to move them to 5-8-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. The Spartans sit in fifth in the conference standings with 10 points and trail the top spot by 3 points.
Jakub Youngstrom scored the first goal of the night for the Spartans in the 17th minute for his first goal of the season and second of his career after
Jos Van Hille found Youngstrom in the box for the score. Nearly 10 minutes later,

Albin Lauridsen who scored his first collegiate goal in the 27th minute.
The Spartans would score the third goal of the game, but it would be for the wrong team after a corner kick with alot of back spin hit off a Spartan defender's head that spun into the goal for the Storm to cut the lead to 2-1. After the half, the Spartans got the goal back off a free kick just outside the box that curved into the top right corner of the goal. The Storm would add on another goal in the 84th minute, but time would run out giving the Spartans the one goal victory.
Wooldridge and
Brandon Kaup had multiple shots on goal for the Spartans that accounted for five of the nine total shots on goal.
Christoffer Rastock allowed the two goals and was able to save four shots in his second win of the season.

The Spartans will face Buena Vista University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on the road before they finish the regular season at home against Luther College on Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m.
