Women's Soccer End in 1-1 Draw With Lake Forest

DUBUQUE, Iowa - On a brisk September evening, University of Dubuque Spartans hosted the Lake Forest Foresters on Oyen Field. Both teams entered the halftime break tied 0-0. The Foresters were first to score before the Spartans struck back with an answer off a penalty shot by Emma Kober, resulting in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

Entering the first period of play, both teams had opportunities to get on the board but were unable to capitalize. The Spartans compiled six shots while Lake Forest was held to five shots in the opening 45 minutes of play. A strong Spartans defense held the Foresters to no corner kicks while the Spartans were given three opportunities in the opening half of play.

The defensive and physical attack by the Foresters frustrated the Spartans offense. UD's defenders stopped Lake forest on three consecutive corner kicks and punted the ball away. Late into the 63rd minute, the Foresters found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage. The visitors did not have the lead for long, as Kober was on the attack after contact in the box earned her a penalty kick. Kober took full advantage of the penalty kick and punched the ball into the back left corner of the goal in the 74th minute. Both teams had shots and headers in the waning minutes, but ended in a 1-1 draw.

In total, the Spartans recorded 12 shots. Kober led UD with five shots, trailed by Riley Trudeau with three, and Baylee Vincent's two. American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week, Elisa Langer, played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Spartans and ended her night with six saves.
