DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season after falling to the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders 2-0. The Spartans now move to 3-1-1 and will begin a four game road trip starting next week.
The Spartans would have a few opportunities to grab an early lead, but the Spartans shots were off target. MSOE would have two opportunities to score in the opening half as both would come within inches of crossing the goal line, but
Matt Marchiori would snag them both for the saves. MSOE and the Spartans would draw at the end of the first half 0-0. The Spartans outshot MSOE six to five in the first half and would record one less corner kick than MSOE. Nearly 15 minutes into the second half MSOE would score grabbing the 1-0 lead before adding an insurance goal at the 73:10 mark to take a 2-0 lead. The Spartans would be unable to find any sort of offensive rhythm the rest of the way to lose at home.
As a team, the Spartans ended the game with 11 shots and only three on goal. Marchiori recorded five saves in the loss. The Spartans were given two corner kicks and had nine fouls.
Gavin Wooldridge recorded four shots to lead the Spartans, but all four would be off target.
