North Central Offense Too Much For Spartans

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team faced a former conference foe on the road tonight as they took on the North Central College Cardinals. The Cardinals offense would be too strong in the first half as the Spartans fall tonight by a final score of 11-5. 

The Cardinals offense on the attack in the first half scored seven straight goals to take a 7-0 lead with 7:40 left in the second quarter. The Spartans would get on the scoreboard with a goal in the last minute of play before halftime where Kyle Hephner found Tyler Phipps to trail at the half 7-1. The Spartans would continue to chip into the Cardinals lead with goals from Ben Farraday and Sam Todd to trail 7-3 with 12:07 remaining in the third quarter. Each team would tack on two more goals to end the third quarter with the Cardinals ahead 9-5. The Spartans offense would come to a halt as they were unable to score in the fourth and the Cardinals would tack on two more goals to claim the 11-5 victory over the Spartans. 

Sam Todd led the Spartans with four shots on goal and Tyler Phipps added three. Ryan Doyle who is the defensive player of the week for the Midwest Lacrosse Conference was able to collect eight ground balls and caused six turnovers. The Spartans were successful on 18-24 clears and won eight face offs tonight. Ryan Gartner collected 12 saves in the loss.
