DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit 30-32 to hold the visiting Coe College Kohawks to just five points in the third quarter en route to a 63-54 win on Jon Davison Court in Stoltz Sports Center on Wednesday night.
Tabria Thomas led the offense with a game high 15 points.
Miah Smith and Kathlee Mathias would both end the night with 10 points.Smith crashed the boards for an impressive 12 rebounds.
Allison Bailey would grab nine rebounds and have four steals. The Spartans would out rebound the Kohawks 44-41.
Karsen Kershner tallied her 69th blocked shot of the season to move into third place overall in the UD record books in blocks in a season behind career leader Jackie Ryan who ranks first and second with 111 in 1989-90 and 92 in 1988-89 respectively. Kershner ranks seventh in the country in blocked shots this season with 3.20 a game.
All eight Spartans who played, scored in the victory. UD's biggest lead was 12 points in the final quarter of play, and the team converted 19 Kohawk turnovers into 22 points. UD's bench out scored Coe 18-16 and the Spartans held the lead for 22:22.
UD (14-8 overall, 8-5 in A-R-C) will travel to Indianola to face the #6 Simpson College Storm (20-1 overall, 12-0 in A-R-C on Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. The Spartans currently in fourth place in the league, extended their lead over fifth place Buena Vista University (5-9).
