CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque extended their winning streak to five games on Sunday as they defeated Blackburn College 84-73 at Dawes Gymnasium.
The Spartans were able to defeat Blackburn with production in the paint as
Brock Simon led the team with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
Jaylin McCants ended the game with 22 points and six rebounds.
Keegan Zimmerman was the other Spartan in double figures with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Spartans totaled 44 points in the paint and had 18 second chance points.
The Spartans were hot in the opening half as they shot 21-41 (51.22%) from the field. They would go a little cooler in the second half at 44.44%. The Spartans made eight three-pointers, but struggled as they attempted 29 (27.6%).
The Spartans trailed at the 10:58 mark on the first half, but a fast break layup by Simon gave the Spartans the lead for good as they would go on to lead by 13 at the half and lead by as many as 18 halfway through the second half to end the game winning by 11.
After losing the season opener to North Central, the Spartans have now won five straight games to move to 5-1 on the early season.
