STORM LAKE, Iowa – Coming off a victory last night against Nebraska Wesleyan, the University of Dubuque Spartans were hoping to arrive back home 2-0 on the road trip. Unfortunately, the Spartans fell to the Buena Vista University Beavers in three sets, on Saturday, October 8. This now puts the Spartans at 9-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Halfway through the first set, the Beavers and Spartans were tied at 8-8 before the Beavers went on a 6-0 run giving them the advantage 14-8. The Spartans were unable to gain the lead as they lost the first set 25-20. The Spartans battled in the second set as no team could gain a convincing lead. A late spark by Buena Vista helped capture set two by a score of 25-21. The Beavers jumped off to an early start and led the entire third set resulting in a 25-21 win.
Emma Powell led the way for the Spartans with 16 kills on 35 attacks (.343%) and 11 digs. Freshman,
Maegan Brylski recorded 16 assists followed by
Kaylynn Murray with 13.
