PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque Spartans women's volleyball team stepped away from conference play and made the quick road trip over to Williams Fieldhouse to take on the UW-Platteville Pioneers. The Spartans battled with the Pioneers winning the second set, but fell short in four sets (18-25, 25-20, 20-25, 21-25).
The Pioneers grabbed the early lead in the game as they captured the first set with late run to win 25-18. A valiant effort by the Spartans resulted in 25-20 victory in the second set after trailing early in the set to be even with the Pioneers 1-1. The Spartans would struggle in the third and fourth sets as their attacking percentages would be in the negative digits resulting in the Pioneers winning the four set match 3-1.
Junior,
Emma Powell paved the way for the Spartans with 13 kills, followed by
Ashlee Adler with nine, and
Darby Hawtrey added eight. The Spartans rallied around their defense as
Katie Wright recorded 16 digs and Powell snagged 13.
Emily Swanson provided key minutes tonight as she tallied four blocks.
Kaylynn Murray added 21 assists in four sets played. As a team, the Spartans managed five service aces and seven blocks.
With the loss, the Spartans now stand at 9-12 (3-2) in conference play.
