Women's Soccer Earn First A-R-C Victory at Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - On Wednesday evening, the University of Dubuque Spartans were on the road in a match-up against the Kohawks of Coe College. Both teams entered halftime scoreless after a quiet first period of play. Entering the second period, the Spartans ignited their offense thanks to a scoring rampage. The Spartans found the back of the net, a season high, five times propelling the Spartans to their first conference win by a score of 5-0.

The Spartans began their offensive attack early in the second period. Lydia Smith recorded the game's first goal in the 59th minute, off an assist from Samantha Scodeller. This opened up the scoring barrage for the Spartans. Minutes later, Smith returned the favor by assisting Scodeller for her first goal of the season. Soon to follow, Emerson Wilson extended the led to 3-0 off an assist from Riley Trudeau. Senior, Bailey Brennan, tallied an assist which resulted in a goal from Trudeau late in the second period. In the last minute of the game, Wilson found the back of the goal again thanks to an assist from Abby Wiegand, capping off a Spartans 5-0 victory. 

The Spartans ended the night with 15 shots and six corner kicks while holding the Kohawks to five shots and no corner kicks. Goalkeeper, Elisa Langer played the full 90 minutes and recorded two saves.

The Spartans hope to carry momentum into this weekend as they welcome in nationally ranked Wartburg College Knights for a Saturday afternoon match up scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day over fall break.
